Day 16 - $5,000 raised thank you! and we(s)t coast

Wow, we've gone past $5,000 for the Breast Cancer Foundation. A huge thank you to everyone.

There's a saying on the Coast that if you can't see the hills it's raining and if you can see them it's about to rain. It was a bit like that today with the first real wet and cold day.

I kicked off early soon after 6am in an effort to get ahead of the expected rain. I was successful through to the start of the Maruia Saddle climb when the heavens opened and it's rained on and off ever since.

A shot from earlier in the ride up the Mātakitaki Valley

The weather came and went

There's pretty much nowhere to buy food between Murchison and Reefton with all the cafes now closed. The GAS station at Springs Junction had pies etc which I eagerly consumed.

There's a long downhill from the Rahu Saddle which would have been great in yesterday's sunshine.

Tomorrow should be Big River subject to the weather.

An interesting name.
