Riding for Breast Cancer Foundation

I’m riding the Tour Aotearoa cycling brevet from Cape Reinga to Bluff (3,015km) mid-February to mid-March for fun* and to help raise vital funds for breast cancer education, research and patient support. I'm wanting to raise at least $1 for every km of the ride.

My family think I'm crazy (and maybe I am) as I’m off to ride one of the world’s great bikepacking trips - the Tour Aotearoa. I’ll be cycling from Cape Reinga to Bluff starting 18 February for both fun and to help raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.

The ride is 3,015km long and takes me down a variety of cycle trails, other tracks, roads and beach (90 Mile). I'm wanting to raise at least $1 for each of these 3,015km of the ride for the Foundation, for breast cancer education, research and patient support.

Every year 3,500 Kiwis are diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 650 will die.

Why the Breast Cancer Foundation? In 2019 my wife Mary-Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer. We are very grateful for the work of the Foundation (and of course all our family, friends and health professionals) and we're thankful her prognosis is good.

By fundraising for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, I’m helping fund –

  1. Ground-breaking projects by some of our country's top researchers
  2. Education about breast health, the importance of regular screening and the signs and symptoms of breast cancer
  3. Free support services for breast cancer patients and their families

Please join me with fundraising for this great cause to help make zero deaths from breast cancer a reality by making a donation at https://fundraise.bcf.org.nz/fundraisers/davidbutterfield/david--s-tour-aotearoa-ride.

I’ve had many requests for how to follow my progress. You can live track me at https://touraotearoa2024.maprogress.com/

* Hopefully more type 1 fun than type 3! (Type 1 being fun at the time, type 2 maybe not fun at the time but in hindsight actually quite memorable and type 3.......)
