Day 5 - hop on the train
Thursday was a day for the trains as we transitioned south through Waikato on a mixture of back roads and rail trails, with the odd bit of busy highway chucked in for good measure.
Firstly, I joined in a bike train down to Paeroa on the Waikato back roads. Thanks to Olly who did all the hard work out front. This made a big difference giving about another 10 kmh.
The terrain was pretty flat, which was welcomed after the amount of climbing over previous days. We had quite a bit of misty rain as we passed through a series of towns such as Ngawea, Paeroa and Te Aroha on route to Matamata.
I suffered my first ''mechanical", a puncture close to my destination for the night in Arapuni. It took me a while to fix, but I got there.
A couple of other niggles including a sore butt, but otherwise okay.
150km and 750m of climbing
